Today is a Thursday…but a special Thursday because it is a holiday!! So we went to Suwon, which a nearby city famous for once being chosen as the capital of South Korea and having a very developed fortress around it as a result.

I woke up late and took forever to get ready, leading to be practically being ready to go around 12pm. Honestly, I was waffling around because one of the girls hadn’t woken up yet, but was still dissappointed in myself for wasting precious good weather before it starts being freezing cold.

We then got lunch at the place next door I’ve been dying to try for a long time because its always busy, and I feel like it hit my expectations. I got the galbi tang, and it came with purple rice and 2 pieces of mandu. The mandu was so yummy, juicy, and plump and I really enjoyed the sweet soy sauce it came with. The galbi tang itself was rich and salty, and the meat was super tender and delicious to eat with the rice. I also got to eat all of my friend’s beef strips because she only liked the soup and rice together.

Then, we finally headed to the 1 hour 30 minute train to Suwon. We were trying to meet our friend at Dongmyo station, but she wasn’t sure if she was gonna make it so we got out…as she jumped in. So we wasted 15 minutes waiting for the next train, which is an insanely long gap btw. It was actually really funny, but I could’ve used those 15 minutes in Suwon.

When we finally got to Suwon around 3, I wanted to try traditional archery but it was on the other side of the city so I sprinted through just to find out that they ran out of tickets. I was really disappointed, but then I remembered my boyfriend had a bow and arrow and I didn’t even really enjoy using his. I saved 2000 won B).

Then, we slowly walked back along the fortress wall and I really enjoyed the calm vibe of the city, with families and couples strolling along the lush grass and admiring the view of Suwon.

We then got back to the city part, and strolled through a cafe/art street that had so many small stores selling local art prints. It was actually my favorite, and I could’ve spent forever just looking at art and buying gifts and souveniers. However, we were kind of in a time crunch because I wanted to see sunset over the city and everyone was hungry so I only got to buy 3 art prints. One of them was even drawn by the store owner!

I really wanted to peak the small mountain in Suwon, but everyone else was struggling to make it up the steps. Granted, it was a bit of a walk but it was like .25 miles up stairs max and I think its kind of sad when people can’t walk .25 miles uphill max. I don’t think they were actually struggling in terms of complaning hard and barely making it, but they were definitely much slower and grumpy about it.

When we made it to the top, the view was gorgeous and it was just in time for the sunset.

On the way down, we saw a stairway that passed by a trees with christmas lights in them, and I swear the girls were there for an hour taking pictures with the lights. I do think it was pretty, but we were honestly there for ages.

Then, we went to the palace in Suwon which I really enjoyed! Most palaces are pretty boring, but this one had models and fake food to try to show us a snapshot in time of the King who lived there, and a lot of light up exhibits like lamp rabbits and an animinatronic lotus.

We ended the day at the Starfield Library in Suwon, where we got to see the famous library part 2. We quickly grabbed burgers for dinner, went to artbox, and then enjoyed the library for about 2 minutes (which is what it deserves).

After a 1.5 hour trip back home, we popped by twosome for a cake and sang the birthday girl happy birthday. Overall a fun day!
